Meet Kerrie – our outstanding HR & Operations Coordinator
For our latest ‘Meet the Team’ blog, we sat down with our outstanding HR & Operations Co-Ordinator, Kerrie, to find out about her career background, her biggest achievements at Alps and what advice she would give to aspiring HR professionals.
Hello, Kerrie! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your career background?
I have worked at Alps for 12 years, starting as an Administration Assistant, before progressing to Team Leader and eventually becoming the HR and Training Co-Ordinator.
Before my career at Alps, I studied Primary Education at university and qualified as a Primary Teacher in 2008. I have also had the incredible opportunity to travel twice, which was amazing, before settling into my career at Alps.
So far, what have been your biggest achievements at Alps?
Having worked at Alps for 12 years, I have achieved many milestones. A few years ago, I led the project to relocate our offices – a challenging yet rewarding experience that truly tested my organisational skills. More recently, I worked closely with our CRM Administrator to implement a new process for booking training sessions for schools and colleges, significantly streamlining and improving the process.
What have you learned, or how have you grown in your role since working for Alps?
I have grown up with Alps. From being a student at Greenhead College and discussing my monitoring grades with my tutor, to starting my career here, Alps has been a constant throughout major life events: buying a house, having children, and getting married. As I have grown, so has the company. While Alps continuously strives to enhance its systems, the heart of the company has never been lost – to improve the life chances for young people.
What is your favourite thing about working at Alps?
Alps genuinely cares about both its staff and the customers we serve. There is a real element of wanting to make a difference, and there is job satisfaction in that.
However, I think my favourite thing about working at Alps is the people – I have made friends for life.
What advice would you give aspiring HR professionals?
Keep up to date with the ever-shifting landscape and don’t be afraid to ask questions when you are unsure. I have learnt so much in the last year by listening to the advice of others and being out of my comfort zone.
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
Whilst saving for my travelling adventures I worked at a burial and cremation office – which was something I didn’t expect to do. I can also balance a full pint glass on my head!
