Meet Libby – our remarkable Marketing Manager
For our latest ‘Meet the Team’ blog, we sat down with our Remarkable Marketing Manager, Libby, to find out about her career background, her biggest achievements at Alps and what advice she would give to aspiring Marketing professionals.
Hello, Libby! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your career background?
Hello! I’ve been part of the Alps team for just over two years, joining the Marketing team in 2024.
Writing has always been a huge passion of mine, which led me to study English Literature and Creative Writing at York St John University. After graduating, that passion became my springboard into marketing, as I began my career as a Content Marketing Assistant for a digital signage company in Harrogate. There, I spent most of my time creating blogs, articles, website copy and digital content, under the guidance of a fantastic mentor who helped shape my early career by introducing me to the wider principles of marketing.
Over the next ten years, I’ve worked across a variety of industries, including Financial Services and Pet Retail, before moving into Education, where I am today. Each role has brought something new, but throughout it all, storytelling and content creation have remained at the heart of what I enjoy most about marketing.
So far, what has been your biggest achievements at Alps?
One of my biggest achievements at Alps has been helping to introduce a more targeted approach to our marketing campaigns, ensuring we’re delivering the right messages to the right audiences at the right time. This was a large and complex project, but the results have been fantastic. It has enabled us to better connect our marketing activity with our sales strategy and strengthen how we engage with schools.
What have you learned, or how have you grown in your role since working for Alps?
Stepping into my first Team Leader role at Alps has been a significant step in my career. It’s given me the opportunity to think more strategically, not just about Marketing, but about how our approach supports the wider Commercial function.
During my time at Alps, I’ve developed a much broader understanding of how the different pieces of the puzzle – from Marketing, to Sales, to Customer Success and Product Development – all fit together, and how we can align our strategies to deliver the best outcomes for schools and, ultimately, their students.
What is your favourite thing about working at Alps?
As a marketing professional, it’s really important to believe in the product or service you’re promoting, and that’s something I truly value about working at Alps. I feel a huge sense of personal pride being part of a company where the work we do genuinely helps to shape the lives of young people.
It’s also inspiring to work alongside people who are so passionate about education. That shared sense of purpose is a huge part of the culture at Alps, and one of the many things that make working here so enjoyable. The Alps ethos that ‘every student is an exception to be valued’ also extends to its employees, where individual strengths are recognised and supported.
What advice would you give aspiring Marketing professionals?
Marketing is a broad discipline, with so many different areas you can specialise in! Don’t be afraid to start in a role that plays to your strengths – for me, that was content writing – and use it as a stepping stone to explore the wider field.
It’s also important to stay curious and seek out opportunities to learn from others. I’ve been fortunate to work with some incredible marketeers throughout my career, all of whom have played a role in shaping my expertise and helping me get to where I am today.
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
While I was at college, I worked at a famous 1950s-style ice cream parlour on Scarborough seafront, and I can still remember how to make every sundae on the menu! If you ever need a Knickerbocker Glory, I’m your girl.
