Meet the latest edition to Alps – Our new Chief Technology Officer

31st August 2021

We are excited to welcome Jon Moody as our new Chief Technology Officer as we look to strengthen our tech team and push forward ambitious product development plans for the years ahead.

After starting his career as a programmer in a building society, Jon has specialised in scaling innovative technology businesses and has served on the board of several software companies overseeing impressive growth and customer success.

With a passion for ‘tech for good’, Jon has great expertise across people and leadership, digital and cloud strategy, security, quality and scalability.

We recently sat down with Jon to talk about his career in technology, what made him want to get into the industry and what led him to join Alps.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself, what your job role is and your career background

I have spent the last 20 odd years (oh dear!) running technology and product teams. At Alps, I am responsible for the technology delivery for the company including software development, the smooth operations of our services and innovation internally and with partners.

What inspired you to choose your career path?

I’ve always been a bit of a geek, but I am most interested in the results of what technology can do. So, for me, it’s all about ‘useful tech’ and the impact it has on real people in the real world. When I started out in tech it was a bit niche but now it underpins everything that our lives depend on, so perhaps I made the right choice!

Why did you join Alps?

The team at Alps are offering an amazing service that benefits the community. Over the last few years, I have been particularly interested in #techforgood and we are doing something which helps students and schools improve themselves and be as good as they can be. That was the initial draw and then everyone I met in the team was of such high quality that it really was something I wanted to be part of.

What have the first two weeks been like?

Busy! The induction program has seen me get access to every area of the business to start to build a solid understanding of products, processes and roles. Everyone has been genuinely welcoming and happy to answer my dumb questions. I’ve even had a few days in the office which is a novelty these days.

What are your plans and vision for the future at Alps? What are you most excited about for your new role?

What I have observed at Alps is a fantastically talented team with great ideas about what is possible and real passion for delivering it. I want to help channel this passion and over the next 5 years deliver some truly novel technology to really make a difference to the lives of students and teachers who use our services across the world. My excitement is in what is possible with the experience and knowledge we have in the team coupled with the technology we now have available to us in data science to deliver unique value.
