The benchmark changer
See how your monitoring data might look measured against our new 2018 benchmarks using our exciting new Benchmark Changer in Connect.
We have just released updated benchmarks for 2018 results analysis. Alps Connect now allows you to choose whether you want to continue to monitor student performance against the current benchmarks; or instead, to change to the new benchmarks.
The new benchmarks are relevant for England A Level, AS Level and KS4. Details of the changes are available here (in the Resources section of your Connect Data homepage.)
Why change the benchmark now?
Your results in August will be automatically analysed against this new benchmark, and therefore changing it now for your monitoring data will give you an up-to-date picture of where performance might be in the summer. You may want to apply this benchmark to your 2017 examination to see how you measure up against the national dataset for 2017.
If you are changing the benchmark, please be aware of the possible implications for monitoring gradepoints submitted under the existing benchmark. This is more pertinent at KS4, where the prior attainment bands have undergone an upward shift. If you have carried out any monitoring under the existing benchmarks, you may find that some of your strategic and subject indicators may have changed if there has been a big shift in prior attainment bands.
Instructions are set out in the ‘Changing the Benchmark’ user guide in the Resources section on the Connect Data homepage.
- Only your Administrators will be able to access and change this setting for your school or college
- If the benchmark is changed, it is changed for every user. There is not an option to do this on a user-by-user basis.
- It is vital that the person who makes this change notifies your staff so as not to cause confusion.
We hope that this latest development is of use to you – it is the latest of a number of continuous improvements and new features we have planned over the next few months.
